Teaching is a learning profession. As part of a school or university’s professional development, I can develop a program that may range from a few hours to a few days. For example, Tecnológico Monterrey asked me to put together a three-day training session for faculty. In this case, I created a framework based on Jack Richards’ (1997) explanation of what teaching typically involves:
- selecting learning activities,
- preparing students for new learning,
- presenting learning activities,
- asking questions,
- conducting drills,
- checking students’ understanding,
- providing opportunities for practice of new items,
- monitoring students’ learning,
- giving feedback on student learning and
- reviewing and reteaching when necessary.
I developed lectures, workshop activities, and presentation tasks to involve the teachers over a three-day period. After the three-day session, an article I wrote was the lead article in Tecnológico Monterrey’s journal. You can read the article here.
I can create custom professional development on a variety of themes and times. The professional development can be delivered in person or via webinar.
